Once a practice throughout Asia, Hong Kong is the final stronghold of the bamboo scaffolders. Caged in bamboo up to 70 stories during renovation, then covered in different colored material to eliminate debris falling to the ground. The title “Cocoon” for this body of work was a natural choice. The framework; a metamorphosis; like caterpillars to butterflies. Colored material unveiled ceremoniously reveals a brand new façade, as in a cocoon revealing itself for the first time. Photographed first in 1994 and 1995, this project became a full time project in 2007 when relocating to Hong Kong from Vietnam. It will be published by Powerhouse Books in NYC and released Spring 2018.
